Febuary 9, New York Mayor's Race and Al Sharpton

The New York Times Stated: "A "withdrawal would not only strengthen" Fields's position in the primary "but also raise the question of who" Rev. Al Sharpton will support. Sharpton had previously said he would
back Barron. Sharpton: "(Barron) informed me of his decision, and I have not decided what I am going to do." Sharpton "also said that he worried about the prospect of splitting the black-Latino coalition "that was forged in '01. Sharpton: "That will weigh heavy in the direction I am going." Dem officials
"have already voiced concerns that the current field for the primary could provoke racial and ethnic battles" that would weaken the Dems chances. "

February 8th, - 'Malcolm X' event
Associatd Press noted: Several hundred people attended the event at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture in Harlem, including Malcolm X's daughter Ilyasah Shabazz, actors Denzel Washington and Wesley Snipes, and the Rev. Al Sharpton, a civil rights activist.

February 8th, Al Sharpton and PETA

The Rev. Al Sharpton has joined PETA in calling for a ban of fast-food chain KFC, in a new TV and radio campaign.

Sharpton is urging the black community to join the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals' boycott of the franchise, the animal protection group announced Thursday.

"If KFC wants to take our money and use it to pay for sloppy practices that hurt animals, I say we send them a message that this is not going to happen," Sharpton says in the ad.

We need all of them."

February 3rd, Al Sharpton Pulls No Punches

The Connecticut Post noted "The Rev. Al Sharpton, civil rights leader and political activist, urged students at Sacred Heart University Tuesday to devote themselves to solving the world's problems and resisting apathy.

Sharpton, a liberal Democrat who unsuccessfully ran for president last year, also claimed President Bush is mishandling the war in Iraq.

"History is composed of people who decided to make a difference," Sharpton said. "History will not be kind to those who duck their responsibility and do nothing."

He urged approximately 200 students to use their degrees to solve problems, rather than amass wealth and material comforts for themselves.
